The Zurich Chamber Orchestra was founded in the 1940s by Edmond de Stoutz and is now one of the leading ensembles of its kind. Daniel Hope joined as Musical Director in 2016, but he made his first appearance with the ensemble a decade before that, and returned on a regular basis during that time, including serving as Artist-in-Residence in the 2014-15 season.
His connection to the Orchestra dates back to his childhood, when his mother was manager for the legendary violinist Yehudi Menuhin, at whose Gstaad festival the Zurich Chamber Orchestra regularly performed. “I heard my first Mozart, my first Bach, my first Vivaldi with this orchestra,” Hope recalls. “It left a decisive mark on my own musicality.”
As Music Director, Daniel Hope brings the Orchestra together with esteemed conductors and soloists to perform programs that span musical eras and styles. His inspired perspectives offer new depth and insight into his carefully crafted programs, which make the most of the Orchestra’s unique sound.
